Xinhua, July 4, 2016 Adjust font size:

Malaysian police said Monday that an earlier explosion injured at least eight was the first such attack related to the Islamic State (IS) in the country.

Two suspects were arrested, said National police chief Khalid Abu Bakar, adding that they had received instructions from a Malaysian IS member in Syria to attack entertainment outlets in the country.

They also targeted the country's senior leaders, police and judges, Khalid said.

He said this was the first terrorist attack linked to the IS in Malaysia, and the authorities was carrying a throughout investigation.

After the attack, 15 with suspected links to terrorist activities were arrested across the country, including two police officials, he added.

A grenade hit a bar in the early hours on June 28 in the suburb of the capital city of Kuala Lumpur, leaving 8 injured, including a Chinese national. Local police said earlier that the explosion was gang-related and not an act of terror. Endit
