An inspector and two police officers were detained here on Tuesday as part of an operation conducted by the national commission against corruption, Portuguese daily newspaper Publico reported.

The inspector and two police officers set up a scheme to attribute inspection certificates to vehicles that did not fulfill the required conditions in exchange for money. They are suspected of crimes of corruption, influence peddling, embezzlement and faking documents.

A source from the public security police said 200 inspectors from a police unit began to undertake searches this morning, with 65 searches undertaken in households, offices and inspection centers.

According to Publico, the investigation is focused on several companies in the vehicle sector. Enditem
