England dominated their Euro 2016 Group B match against but failed to turned their chances into goals after the first time here on Saturday.
With 70,000 capacity Stade Velodrome mostly occupied by England fans, Roy Hodgson's side took almost 70 percent of possession and played 45 minutes of beautiful attacking football.
Their best chance came in the 22nd minute when Kyle Walker came forward from the right, cutting the ball back inside the penalty area to Adam Lallana, but the 28-year-old drove his effort past the far post.
England captain Wayne Rooney played in a deeper role and showed authority and vision and is expected creat more chances in the second half.
Eric Dier and Dele Alli were also active in the first half and Walker and Danny Rose raced ahead from both flanks often and created a lot of threat for Russia's defense. Endit
