Zimbabwe draws 2-2 with Swaziland in 2016 Cosafa opening match

Xinhua, June 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

Zimbabwe and Swaziland drew 2-2 in Namibian capital Windhoek Saturday during the opening match of the 2016 Cosafa Cup Group A.

Swaziland's two goals came from Felix Badenhorst.

The first one was a close-range header Badenhorst tapped in just fifteen minutes into the match that was played at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.

The second goal came in the 65th minute when Badenhorst converted a penalty kick into the goals after the Zimbabwean Danny Phiri handled in the box.

Zimbabwe's goals came from Elisha Muroiwa and Obadiah Tarumbwa.

Tarumbwa's goal came a few minutes after break when he converted a cross into a goal, while Muroiwa's was delivered 10 minutes before the final whistle.

The Swazi coach, Harries Bulunga, said they had control of the game from the start but failed to make use of all the opportunities.

Kalisto Pasuwa, who coaches the Zimbabwean side, agreed with Bulunga that the Swazi's had a lot of chances but failed to convert them into goals.

"We led twice but let Zimbabwe back into the match," Bulunga said.

"I hope this is a lesson to my boys to tighten up and improve for the matches to come," Pasuwa said.

The Zimbabwe-Swaziland match was preceded by a colourful opening ceremony attended by hundreds of supporters who were entertained by a dancing group and serenaded by one of Namibia's talented jazz musician, Adora Kisting.

The Brave Warriors of Namibia, who are the Cosafa Cup holders, showed off the trophy.

Madagascar and Seychelles in Group A were due to clash Saturday.

Group B's opening match pitting Lesotho and Mauritius was played at the Independence Stadium, followed by the Angola-Malawi clash. Endit
