Substitute Hal Robson-Kanu' s goal in the 80th minute helped freshman Wales to get a historic victory over Slovakia 2-1 in the UEFA EURO 2016 Group B here on Saturday.
History is on Slovakia's side as it has won seven of 14 previous meetings between the two sides, Wales winning four, and three ending in a draw.
Wales' star Gareth Bale broke the deadlock through a freekick in the 9th minute, which was the first goal of Wales in the history of UEFA EURO.
Ondrej Duda, attacking midfielder of Slovakia, equalized in the 60th minute after coming on just some seconds.
Substitute Robson-Kanu scored a delightful goal in the 80th minute from Ramsey' s pass, and sealed a 2-1 victory for Wales.
"It' s just a memorable moment, a historic moment for our country," Bale said. "It doesn't matter about the goals, we got the three points and we gave our fans something to cheer."
Slovakia make its EURO debut as an independent nation and Wales take its first EURO finals steps, therefore, every score of both sides will create history.
"For Hal to get the winner was amazing," Bale said. "When subs come on they need to have an impact and he was amazing."
"We're not thinking about this game any more, it's on to England. We've done the first part, now two more to go," Bale said. Wales will meet England on next Thursday. Endit
