Two speedboats on Wednesday crashed in the sea of Phuket in south Thailand, killing two and injuring 26 tourists, Spring News reported.

The crash took place at around 2 p.m. local time when the two boats were both heading from Phuket to the Mu Koh Phi Phi islands in stormy weather. The passengers were mainly Chinese and South Koreans.

Police said that the Chollakij speedboat carrying 36 passengers and the Hongfah 333 carrying 26 collided near diving hotspot Moo Snakha Rocks amid rough waves.

Local media said that two tourists including one man and one woman were killed, 26 others were injured and sent to hospital.

Phuket is one of the southern provinces in Thailand. It consists of the island of Phuket, the so-called "pearl of Andaman Sea" as well as the country's largest island, and other 32 smaller islands off its coast. It lies off the west coast of Thailand in the Andaman Sea.
