Zambian President Lungu confident of victory in August election

Xinhua, June 3, 2016 Adjust font size:

Zambian President Edgar Lungu on Thursday said there was no doubt that he will win August's presidential election.

He made the remarks after filing his nomination papers for the polls.

He told supporters that there was no doubt he will win the election because of his ruling Patriotic Front party's pro-poor policies.

He also called for unity in the party ahead of the polls.

Lungu won last year's presidential election necessitated by the death of then President Michael Sata, who was also the founder of the Patriotic Front.

Analysts say Lungu will face stiff competition from main opposition leader, Hakainde Hichilema, from the United Party for National Development.

Zambia is due to hold presidential, parliamentary and local government elections on August 11. Endit
