Ghana moves one place up on latest FIFA ranking

Xinhua, June 3, 2016 Adjust font size:

Ghana moved one place up to rank 37th on the June edition of the FIFA world ranking released on Thursday.

The Black Stars remained third place on the continental ladder behind Cote d' Ivoire and Algeria after accumulating 35 points to increase its point build-up to 728 from the previous month' s 693 points.

Argentina and Belgium held onto first and second place respectively on the latest FIFA/Cola-Cola World Ranking.

However, a flurry of international matches - largely among European teams focusing on their final preparations for the UEFA EURO 2016 taking place from June 10 to July 10 - resulted in a number of shifts in the top 50 this month.

According to FIFA, 45 international friendlies were included in calculating the latest ranking, along with four 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification matches for the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) region.

Ghana will play away to Mauritius in the penultimate Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier on Sunday. Endit
