UN Security Council condemns hotel bombing in Somalia that killed over 10

Xinhua, June 3, 2016 Adjust font size:

The UN Security Council on Thursday condemned "in the strongest terms" the Al-Shabaab terrorist attack on a hotel in Mogadishu which killed more than 10 people and wounded over 20 others.

In a press statement released here, the 15-nation council stressed the need to take measures to prevent and suppress the financing of Al-Shabaab, and any other terrorist group in Somalia.

On Wednesday, a vehicle laden with explosives detonated outside the Ambassador Hotel in Mogadishu before three militants stormed inside the building.

The attack on the hotel came hours after Somali officials said a top commander of militant group Al-Shabaab and three other militants were killed in a Wednesday night military operation.

The Security Council underlined the need to bring perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism to justice, said the statement.

"The members of the Security Council reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security," it added. Endit
