Portugal's Ocean Business Week, the country's biggest forum on the economy of the sea, kicked off on Thursday at the Centro de Congressos (Conference Center) in Lisbon.

The event was inaugurated by Minister of Sea Ana Paula Vitorina.

The main objectives of the Oceans Meeting 2016 will be to "place projects on the ground, disseminate information in a universal and intergenerational way, and to construct a path of knowledge for a sustainable and intelligent use of marine resources," according to the ministry of sea.

One of the highlights of the program includes an international meeting of ministers of sea, chaired by Prime Minister Antonio Costa.

An exhibition will be taking place showing a number of sea-related projects including blue biotechnology and mineral sea resources and aquaculture. Endit
