Bangladeshi Finance Minister AMA Muhith Thursday said his government has set a target of generating additional 16,086 megawatts(MW) of electricity by 2021.

To achieve this target, the minister said installation of 29 power plants with a capacity of 7,296 MW capacity is in progress while tendering processes of 20 power plants with a capacity of 6,681 MW are underway.

Furthermore, he said there is a plan to construct 8 power plants with a capacity of 4,435 MW, and there is also a plan to install more power plants in Moheshkhali, an island located in the Bay of Bengal just off the Bangladeshi mainland, with private investment.
