Slovakia unveils logo for EU presidency

Xinhua, May 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

Slovakia unveiled its logo on Wednesday for its presidency of the Council of the EU in the second half of 2016.

Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak revealed on Wednesday the building of the Council of the EU in Brussels would bear the symbols of the four natural elements as a symbol of Slovakia to show it is a dynamic and innovative country.

"Our concept taps into old wisdom concerning the four basic elements of the world," explained Lajcak.

Earth will be represented by a model of an ecocapsule, an energy-efficient mobile dwelling. Kayaks and canoes will represent water. Plasma deep drilling technology developed by a Slovak company will symbolize the element of fire, while wind will be linked to Slovakia's own first genuinely flying car, the Aeromobil, which will be on display in the lobby of the building in July.

"I hope that all visitors will not only notice that Slovakia is presiding over the EU but that it's also a country of great ideas, which is in line with our new country brand, 'Good idea, Slovakia'," added Lajcak.

The new Slovak brand was created by the company Creative Department using information from a survey carried out by Focus agency in early 2015.

According to Creative Department director Simona Bubanova, the survey generated four keywords for creating a country brand for Slovakia: peculiarity, vitality, diversity and ingenuity.

"We looked for something exceptional and original that would show Slovaks what a good country they're living in," said Bubanova.

A special focus was placed on presenting Slovakia as a modern country that can capitalize on its traditions, as well as ideas, inventions and products that have made it abroad.

Slovakia takes over the EU presidency from the Netherlands on July 1. The special exhibition that will accompany Slovakia's presidency in Brussels could be officially opened on July 7. Endit
