NATO to move iconic "NATO star" to new headquarters

Xinhua, May 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

NATO on Wednesday began the physical preparations for the move of steel sculpture "NATO star" to its new headquarters, the security organization said.

"NATO star" has stood in front of the Alliance's headquarters in Brussels since August 1971. It is 7 meters high, between 4.2 and 7 meters wide.

The sculpture was designed by Belgian architect Raymond Huyberechts as a stylized compass cut by two circles, representing Europe and North America, which has been the symbol of the organization.

The construction of the new NATO headquarters started in October 2010 and is planned to be completed in Brussels in 2016. Endit
