A magnitude-5.5 earthquake on Wednesday hit the southern Greek island of Crete, though no injuries or major damage were reported, authorities said.

Greek seismologists revised up an earlier estimate of 5.2 on the Richter scale given by the Euro Mediterranean Seismic Center, said the Athens Geodynamic Institute.

The tremor's epicenter was located in a sea area off the island's coast, about 53 km southeast from the port city of Ierapetra at a depth of 10 km. Endi
