The 2015 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT) Golf Championships junior ladies runners-up, Kellie Gachaga aims at acquiring a below 70 stroke score ahead of the 2016 British Open Championship where she will fly the Kenyan flag.
The 15-year-old, who won the 2015 junior lady Golfer-of-the Year award, qualified for the British Open scheduled for July 14-17 after coming second during the AACT championship held in Malawi.
"I am under no pressure ahead of the 145th British Open that will be held at the Royal Troon Golf Club in Ayrshire, Scotland," she told Xinhua in Nairobi on Friday.
"I am a veteran of championships. I play to win the game, but if a win comes my way, I feel happy although I am always under no pressure," she said.
Gachaga said she will raise the stakes ahead of the July outing to attain a 75 or even 70 stroke score to be able to ward of the stiff competition she anticipates in Scotland.
The handicap 6 lass, who started playing golf at the tender age of nine, will become the youngest ever African lady to feature at the prestigious event.
"The experience I have gained while representing Kenya at international events has helped in sharpening my skills," she remarked.
During the 2015 AACT event in Malawi, Gachaga was ranked second after she lost by a single stroke where Kenya finished third overall.
In August 2015, Gachaga was part of the Kenyan national team that represented the country during the Gilberson & Page Trophy that was held in Zambia. Endit
