Xinhua, May 21, 2016 Adjust font size:

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement on Friday released a number of humanitarian priorities ahead of the World Humanitarian Summit scheduled on May 23-24 in Istanbul.

These include protecting the dignity of every human being, humanitarian access to those in need, tackling and preventing abuses of international humanitarian law in conflict, and safety of humanitarian volunteers and workers.

Also on the organization's list are recognizing the central role of local communities and organizations in humanitarian response, investing in community resilience, health services in disasters and protecting health care in conflict and crisis, and appropriate financing for humanitarian response.

The organization said that during the World Humanitarian Summit, it will give voice to the needs of vulnerable communities "at a crucial moment in shaping the future of humanitarian action".

The first-ever World Humanitarian Summit, set to take place in Istanbul on May 23-24, is a global call to action by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to re-inspire and reinvigorate a commitment to humanity and to the universality of humanitarian principles.

The summit is also aimed to initiate a set of concrete actions and commitments so as to enable countries and communities to better prepare for and respond to crises, and be resilient to shocks, as well as to share best practices which can help save lives around the world. Endit
