Leading UAE firm tasked to install part of Asia-Europe submarine cable link

Xinhua, May 15, 2016 Adjust font size:

Dubai-based E-marine, leading provider of submarine cable solutions in the Middle East, announced here Sunday its cooperation with Alcatel-Lucent Submarine Networks to install a section of a major submarine cable system linking Asia to Europe.

E-marine will install a link from Pakistan to Oman and the UAE, a distance of around 2,000 km, for Alcatel-Lucent Submarine Networks. A submarine cable is a cable installed on the ground of the sea bed between land-located stations in order to transmit telecommunication signals across seawater.

E-marine said in an e-mailed this win in collaboration with Alcatel-Lucent Submarine Networks is a "showpiece" for the company, adding that it demonstrated E-marine's "global positioning as a major player in sub-sea cable-laying."

Omar Jassim Bin Kalban, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of E-marine, said "countries like the United Arab Emirates ... are becoming more connected and the world is demanding faster connectivity speeds as data volumes surge." Endit
