Figo welcomes FIFA's new stage

Xinhua, May 13, 2016 Adjust font size:

After his aspirations to lead FIFA, Portuguese Luis Figo said he welcomes the organization's new stage under the leadership of Gianni Infantino, local press reported on Thursday.

Figo's statement was made on the sideline of the FIFA Congress being held in Mexico City.

The former Real Madrid star said under Infantino's leadership, FIFA has a new and promising path and it is a proof that football is again the main issue.

"I think Infantino's new program is positive. A change was necessary and from now on we will see more accountability and democracy and it will be an opportunity to work together, with the union of all the confederations to erase the old image of FIFA and work to improve it," he said.

"The most important thing is to put the issue on soccer again, to think about the player's needs instead of just politics. This might be a good way to recover credibility," he added. Endit
