Russia dismisses New York Times report on Sochi doping as absurd

Xinhua, May 13, 2016 Adjust font size:

Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko on Thursday dismissed as "absurd" a New York Times report claiming that a host of Russian athletes were involved in doping use during the 2014 Winter Olympics in the Black Sea resort of Sochi.

"They are outstanding athletes and all the accusations are absurd ... The accusations against them are absolutely groundless. We are going to study this article and see how to react," Mutko was quoted as saying by the TASS news agency.

The New York Times reported on Thursday that dozens of Russian athletes, including at least 15 medal winners, were part of a state-run doping program, "meticulously planned for years to ensure dominance" at the Sochi Winter Olympics. Enditem
