U.S. companies help preserve Hemingway museum in Cuba

Several U.S. companies on Wednesday donated construction materials, equipment and tools worth 900,000 U.S. dollars to a Cuban workshop in charge of preserving the legacy of American writer Ernest Hemingway.

In a ceremony held at Hemingway's home at Finca Vigia on the outskirts of Havana, where the Nobel Prize winner lived for 21 years, senior representatives of companies like Caterpillar, AT&T, American Express and Ford Foundation stressed the importance of being part of the initiatives.

This funding will allow museum workers to digitize manuscripts of the writer and keep museum objects in good condition.

Hemingway's home, which has turned into a museum, holds more than 22,000 documents and belongings of Hemingway during his stay in Cuba, where he wrote some of his most important works, like "The Old Man and the Sea."
