Two British and a Mexican climber have successfully scaled the world's highest peak Qomolangma on Thursday morning, becoming the first foreigners to reach atop after a halt of two years.
Two British climbers, Kenton Cool and Robert Richard Lucas, scaled the 8,848-meter peak along with two Nepalese Sherpa guides at 8:20 a.m. local time, according to Department of Tourism.
They are all from expedition group Himalayan Guides, Jeevan Acharya, an officer at the Department of Tourism told Xinhua.
Following their footstep, a Mexican climber, David Liaono Gonzalez, along with Sherpa guide Pasang Rita Sherpa, scaled the peak a few minutes later.
All Qomolangma expeditions were cancelled in 2014, marking it a "Black Year" following the death of 16 Sherpa guides whereas the avalanche triggered by the massive earthquake on April 25 last year that killed 19 climbers had halted the Qomolangma dream of hundreds.
Earlier on Wednesday, nine Sherpa guides had reached the top of the Qomolangma to fix climbing ropes to the summit point. Endit
