Former Sri Lankan minister and brother of ex-president arrested

Former Sri Lankan Economic Affairs Minister Basil Rajapaksa was arrested by the police of Financial Crimes Investigations Division (FCID) on Thursday.

He was arrested after he appeared before the FCID to make a statement.

Rajapaksa was arrested over a land issue in the southern Matara town and is to be produced before a magistrate later in the day.

The former minister was arrested last year as well in connection to a financial fraud case but was later released on bail.

Basil Rajapaksa is the brother of former Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Endit
