Six stand trial for selling banned beef from Japan

Xinhua, May 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

Six people, including a Japanese national, stood trial Wednesday in Shanghai for smuggling beef from Japan's areas affected by animal epidemics.

The Japanese national, identified by his surname Tera, smuggled and sold banned beef to China with the help of another suspect surnamed Chen. Total sales exceeded 36 million yuan (5.5 million U.S. dollars), according to Shanghai Third Intermediate People's Court.

The other suspects helped store and sell the beef, according to the court.

The suspects have confessed and the verdict will be announced at a later date. Endi
