New York Marathon champion, Stanley Biwott of Kenya says establishing his road running career in Brazil will serve him well when he runs for his country Kenya at summer' s Olympics Games.
Having run 2:14:25 for seventh in his marathon debut in Calais, France in 2006, the 30-year-old was named in his country' s men' s marathon team for the Olympic
"I' m happy to be named in the team and that they have seen my performance and hard work of the last two years," he said on Wednesday having featured in races in Sao Paolo, Brasilia and Azkoita in the Olympics hosting country where he returned podium finishes.
Last year, he was beaten to fourth by Eliud Kipchoge, who will join him in Rio, Kipsang and world record holder, Dennis Kimetto in the race for London glory in Apr.
He however, returned in emphatic fashion in the fall of the same year, when clinched his first WMM victory when he beat Beijing IAAF World Championships men 10000m silver winner, Geoffrey Kipsang Kamworor to the honours in New York, with increment weather meaning he could only run 2:10: 34.
Last month, he managed to keep up with Kipchoge, arguably the number one marathoner on the planet only to run out of steam over the final 2km as his fellow Kenyan raced to the title in 2:03:05, the second-quickest performance of all time that was only eight seconds shy of the world record.
"I was not prepared to run that fast but I was in good shape because I had trained very well for London and I was actually in better shape than last year. Winning New York showed that I can do better if I prepare well and I think I can still lower my PB," Biwott maintained. Endit
