China calls for multilateral anti-graft mechanism

China called for closer international cooperation to combat corruption at the ninth annual conference of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA) that opened on Wednesday.

China is looking to establish more bilateral and multilateral mechanisms with other countries to fight corruption, said Meng Jianzhu, head of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, at the meeting held in northern Chinese city of Tianjin.

Over the past decade since its founding, the IAACA has played a key part in anti-corruption cooperation across borders and the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption, Meng said.

China will continue to support the operation of IAACA, he said.

China's Procurator-General Cao Jianming told the meeting that judicial departments should work together to explore new tools and methods to prevent and curb corruption.

In the past few years, China has launched several joint operations with other countries to hunt down fugitives involved in graft.

A total of 108 Chinese corruption suspects have been returned from abroad in the past 15 months, according to the Supreme People's Procuratorate on Dec. 30. Endi
