Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann on Sunday said May 8, 1945, the day of liberation from Nazism and the end of the World War II in Europe, should never be forgotten.

In a speech at the Federal Chancellery, Faymann said Europe and the world were in a terrible crisis in the history during the war, noting tens of thousands of people in his country who opposed Nazism lost their lives, local media reported.

The chancellor said the liberation day should never be forgotten, and the terrible history should never happen again.

Vice Chancellor Reinhold Mitterlehner said commemorations are important and people should learn from the experience of 1945 and to live with right conclusions.

He said it is necessary to learn to live together, not against each other today.

Austria was occupied by Nazi Germany in 1938 and played a role as accomplice of the Nazi Germany during WWII. Endit
