Kittel takes third stage and leads in Giro

German cyclist Marcel Kittel won his second consecutive stage in the Giro d'Italia by booking another victory in a bunch sprint on Sunday in Arnhem, the Netherlands.

After 190 kilometers from Nijmegen to Arnhem Kittel was set up perfectly by his Etixx-Quick Step teammates. Elia Viviani (Team Sky) finished second and Giacomo Nizzolo (Trek-Segafredo) ended as third.

With the 10 bonus seconds the German sprinter gained at the finish he also took over the pink leaders jersey from Dutch Giant-Alpecin rider Tom Dumoulin.

A breakaway group with Maarten Tjallingii (LottoNL-Jumbo), Johann Van Zyl (Dimension Data), Julen Amezqueta (Southeast-Venezuela) and Giacomo Berlato (Nippo-Vini Fantini) did not make it to the end in the third stage. Van Zyl was the last rider to get caught on two kilometers from the finish.

After three days in The Netherlands the Giro will return to Italy with the 4th stage on Tuesday. The riders have a rest day on Monday. Endit
