Georgia to launch joint military drill with U.S., UK

Georgia will launch a three-week long joint military drill with two NATO member states starting from May 11 at the Vaziani base near its capital Tbilisi, the Georgian Defense Ministry announced on Thursday.

Military equipment for the exercises, named "Noble Partner 2016", had arrived in Georgia's Poti port and were on their way to the Vaziani base, according to the the ministry's statement on Thursday.

The drill will involve as many as 1,300 soldiers including 500 Georgian servicemen, 650 U.S. servicemen and 150 UK soldiers who will incorporate a full range of equipment, including U.S. M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tanks, Bradley Fighting Vehicles, and C-130 "Hercules" aircraft, said the ministry.

It added that the exercises aim at increasing the interoperability of Georgian troops with NATO and U.S. forces.

Georgia and the U.S. conducted the first "Noble Partner" exercises in May 2015. Endit
