Cote d'Ivoire to hold legislative polls "latest by Nov. 20": official

Cote d'Ivoire will hold its legislative elections "latest by Nov. 20, 2016," the vice-chairman of the country's Independent Electoral Commission (CEI) Gervais Coulibaly said Wednesday.

Coulibaly who was speaking on national radio, said the decision to hold legislative elections towards the end of the year "conforms to the law."

The CEI vice-chairman said the process of revising the voters' register will begin towards the end of May.

The electoral commission plans to deploy 1,000 teams across the entire national territory to guarantee the success of the operation to review the voters' register.

The electoral list in 2015 had over 6.3 million registered voters.

The country is preparing to hold local elections after the 2015 presidential elections that saw President Alassane Ouattara re-elected for a new five-year term.

In a recent message to the country, Ouattara appealed for peaceful local elections. Endit
