Xinhua, May 4, 2016 Adjust font size:

Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida on Wednesday inked bilateral deals with his Lao counterpart on funding for road and bridge construction and human resource development during his visit to the country.

Kishida, who arrived here on Wednesday, signed with his Lao counterpart Saleumxay Kommasith bilateral agreements on granting some 2,528 million yen (23.7 million U.S. dollars) in aid for the reconstruction of bridges on National Road No. 9, the Lao part of a regional transport corridor connecting Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam.

The deal also included additional 247 million yen (2.32 million U.S. dollars) scholarship support for Lao citizens studying in Japan.

Kishida is set to pay a courtesy call to newly elected Prime Minister of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith on Thursday before his departure to Vietnam, the final leg of an eight-day five-nation tour which started in Beijing with stops in Myanmar and Thailand. Endit
