Bulgaria to build infrastructure to support NATO's air tankers

Xinhua, May 4, 2016 Adjust font size:

Bulgarian government here on Wednesday approved the construction of infrastructure projects in the country's military airports which would support air-to-air refueling of NATO jets, officials have confirmed.

The aim was to support NATO air operations, missions and tasks, the government said in a statement.

The construction would be funded by the NATO Security Investment Program, the statement read.

Bulgaria would thus fulfill its commitments arising from the country's membership in NATO, and increase operational capabilities to ensure national security and integration in the collective defense, it said.

Bulgaria hosted U.S. military refueling aircraft at Burgas Airport near the Black Sea in 2001, 2003 and 2011, when they supported operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. Endit
