Suspect hijacks Metrobus in Washington D.C., fatally strikes pedestrian

Xinhua, May 4, 2016 Adjust font size:

A pedestrian was killed on Tuesday here after a man stabbed a metrobus driver and hijacked the bus, local authority said.

The whole incident lasted less than three minutes shortly before 11 a.m. local time, said D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier here at a briefing, adding that the male suspect was in custody for attacking the bus driver.

After attacking the driver with an unknown weapon, passengers and the driver managed to escape from the bus, said Lanier. Then the suspect took control of the bus and drove it to a gas station where the bus mounted a curb and struck a pedestrian who died shortly after the incident.

Calling the suspect "very distraught and violent," Lanier said the incident was "bizarre" and "uncharacteristic" for a person to take a bus and then attack a bus driver. Endit
