Tokyo shares end lower on gains lock-in after recent surge

Tokyo shares ended the trading Monday lower as investors here tended to lock in recent gains after a four-day surge.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended 133.19 points, or 0.76 percent, lower from Friday at 17,439.30.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 5.67 points, or 0.40 percent, to 1,401.83.

Decliners were led by pulp and paper, information and communication as well as mining issues.

The day's turnover was about 2,260.0 billion yen (around 20.31 billion U.S. dollars). Endit
