Finland not to send refugees back to Hungary

Finland will no longer send asylum seekers back to Hungary, the Finnish Immigration Authority told media on Wednesday.

Finland's Supreme Administrative Court has deemed that the asylum processing in Hungary has major problems and returning refugees to Hungary could compromise the basic rights of asylum seekers.

Esko Repo, head of the asylum processing unit at the immigration authority, told national broadcaster Yle the decision was "of national importance."

Finland is now suspending all decisions to return asylum seekers to Hungary.

Following an earlier decision concerning Greece, Hungary is now the second EU country that Finland does not send refugees to. Endit
