Rwandese soldiers "intruded" DR Congo to search for FDLR rebels

Military authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) said Tuesday Rwandese soldiers intruded the eastern part of the country in search of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) rebels.

"The Rwandese army was inside the Congolese territory," said Guillaue Ndjike Kaiko, the media director for the 34th military region of the DR Congo Armed Forces.

Kaiko was briefing the media on the findings of an army delegation sent earlier in the day to North Kivu province to investigate allegations of the presence of Rwandese soldiers.

In its report, the delegation cited local people as saying "hundreds of Rwandese soldiers" entered the Congolese territory over the weekend to search for FDLR rebels, who were believed to be hiding within Buhumba hills in North Kivu.

The affected areas have been "secured", Kaiko said.

Rwandese authorities say that last week a group of militants, suspected to be FDLR members, attacked a police post in western Rwanda.

The deputy spokesman for the Rwandese army said that after several hours of fighting, the army defeated the assailants and pushed them towards the DR Congo territory. Endit
