Djibouti's constitutional council validates presidential poll results

Xinhua, April 20, 2016 Adjust font size:

Djibouti's Constitutional Council on Tuesday validated the results of the April 8 presidential elections in which President Ismail Omar Guelleh won a fourth term.

According to the final results, Guelleh secured his victory in the first round on 87.07 percent of the vote.

His closet rival, Omar Elmi Khaireh, from the main opposition coalition, National Salvation Union, took only 7.34 percent.

The Constitutional Council rejected results from eight polling stations for various reasons.

It put turnout at 68.96 percent.

President Guelleh has been in power since 1999. Endit
