35 wildfires burning in Russia's Far East regions

Thirty-five wildfires covering more than 2,000 hectares are burning in three Far East regions in Russia, the Federal Forestry Agency of Russia said on Wednesday.

"Currently 21 wildfires are burning in the Amur region, 7 in the Khabarovsk territory, and 7 in the Jewish Autonomous Region," it said.

The fires cover a total area of 2,324 thousand hectares and authorities have deployed 641 people, 104 units of equipment, and 7 aircraft to fight the, the forestry agency added.

Russia has reported 199 wildfires in its Far East regions covering over 13,000 hectares since the beginning of the fire season in 2016. This is in comparison with 153 wildfires covering 90,000 hectares in the same period last year. Endi
