Cocaine worth 6.75 mln U.S.dollars found stashed in Riga hangar

Xinhua, April 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

Law enforcement authorities in Latvia have seized 60 kg of cocaine hidden in charcoal bags in a hangar in Riga, Edijs Ceipe, head of the Latvian Customs Police, said at a news conference Thursday.

Ceipe noted the amount might be equal to 60,000-120,000 doses and its street value is estimated to be 6 million euros (6.75 million U.S. dollars).

The narcotics were found on April 13 in a hangar in Riga's northern suburb of Jugla. They had been smuggled from Paraguay through European ports, Ceipe added.

The haul had officially been registered as charcoal, and sent by a Latvian company to a Latvian-registered company in Lithuania.

Three suspects have been detained in connection with the drug trafficking case. Endit
