Detention of Brussels attack suspect Abrini extended by one month

Xinhua, April 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

The detentions of Mohamed Abrini and Osama Krayem, suspects in the terrorist attacks in Brussels and Paris, have been extended by one month, reported Belgian broadcaster RTBF on Thursday.

Abrini passed Thursday morning before the council chamber, but he refused to appear before the judge.

At the request of his lawyers, the hearing of the council chamber was postponed to May 26, RTBF reported.

Abrini has admitted to be "the man in the hat," the image caught on camera at the Brussels Airport ahead of the bombings there in the morning of March 22.

Abrini was also filmed at a gas station in Paris two days before the Nov. 13 bombings last year along with Salah Abdeslam, a major suspect of the Paris attacks arrested on March 18.

Five others charged for their role in the Brussels attacks, including Krayem, also appeared on Thursday before the council chamber and had their detention extended by one month.

Krayem, the individual who accompanied the bomber who exploded Maelbeek metro station, was also deprived of his liberty in the file concerning the attacks in Paris on Nov. 13, 2015 which claimed the lives of 130 people. Endit
