Streaming sites blacklisted for illegal content

Xinhua, April 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

Twenty-five Chinese live broadcasting platforms, including the popular douyu.com and yy.com, have been blacklisted for containing violent or obscene content, according to the Ministry of Culture on Thursday.

The ministry said it had instructed local law enforcement agency to fully investigate into the cases and dish out punishment.

The websites were also accused of encouraging viewers to break the law and challenged accepted moral values.

The ministry said all Internet-based service providers must bear legal responsibility for their content, and violators will be punished.

Live online broadcasts have become very popular in China over the last year, with 200 million registered viewers in 2015. Endi
