Zambia's public broadcaster starts televising parliamentary sessions

Xinhua, April 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

Zambia's public broadcaster has started test transmission of parliamentary sessions in order to afford viewers an opportunity to follow parliamentary deliberations, an official said on Thursday.

The commencement of parliamentary sessions follows the launch of a new channel, Parliament Television, by the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation.

"The main aim of the test transmission is to gauge the public's appetite for parliamentary content in line with the corporation's mandate of informing, entertaining and educating the nation," Mpunga Chipepo-Simukwai, the broadcaster's acting corporate affairs manager said in a statement.

She pointed out that the new channel will avail an opportunity for the public to follow deliberations in parliament, which is important in promoting good governance.

The addition of more and exciting channels on the ZNBC bouquet is in line with the corporation's mandate to offer varied and relevant programming to the public, she added.

The test transmission runs from April 12 until when the current parliament session is dissolved. Endit
