Singapore's MRT operator ends internal probe, appoints external advisors for track accident

Xinhua, April 8, 2016 Adjust font size:

Singapore's MRT operator SMRT has completed internal investigations into the cause of fatal track accident which caused the death of two trainees on March 22 and appointed external reviewers, SMRT said on Friday.

The operator said in a statement that it has appointed experts from Keppel Corp, Transport for London, the equivalent of Singapore's Land Transport Authority, as well as a former executive of Hong Kong's MTR Corp to review the findings.

The review will be carried out with SMRT Board Risk Committee members, before a report is handed over to the Ministry of Manpower and the police for their statutory investigations.

Two maintenance staff of SMRT have been killed after a track accident near Pasir Ris station along the East-West line on March 22 when they were on the track to investigate a technical fault. SMRT previously acknowledged that safety procedures were not followed. Enditem
