The following are highlights of major South African media outlets on Friday.
-- African Union Commission head Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, who is tipped to take over the ANC leadership, will step down at the end of her four-year term in July.
Dlamini-Zuma did not submit an application to remain as chairperson for a second term before the deadline for candidates closed last week, her spokesperson Jacob Enoh Eben said yesterday. (City Press).
-- President Jacob Zuma was booed on Thursday at Sammy Marks Square in Pretoria as he left a debate of the National House of Traditional Leaders, amid calls for him to step down mounted within the African National Congress (ANC).
But there are indications that party officials will stick by him and are preparing to reach out to branches to manage the fallout. (Business Day).
-- ANC MPs in the National Assembly have refused to apologise to Public Protector Thuli Madonsela, a move that highlighted their frosty relationship with her over the Nkandla debacle.
This was as Madonsela returned to the National Assembly yesterday to ask for more funds to address the increasing number of complaints and backlogs in her office. (The Star). Endit
