Queensland Premier encourages innovation input from Asia

Queensland State Premier Annastascia Palaszczuk has encouraged entrepreneurs in Hong Kong to attend an innovation summit in Australia.

Palaszczuk said in a statement on Friday it was crucial that Queenslanders exchanged big ideas with innovation leaders, during her tour of Hong Kong's Science and Technology Parks over the past two days.

The Advance Queensland Innovation and Investment Summit to be held in the Queensland state capital city of Brisbane in late April, will bring together innovators and business leaders from across the globe.

"What I've seen this week in Hong Kong are a great examples of successful innovation and it's the kind of culture my government wants to continue fostering in Queensland," Palaszczuk said.

"When you look at the Science and Technology Parks established in Hong Kong, they are designed to encourage and facilitate greater collaboration between scientific research, industry and entrepreneurs to deliver greater commercialization outcomes."

"The Advance Queensland Innovation and Investment Summit will build on the traction made by the Advance Queensland program and by adding expertise from established Hong Kong entrepreneurs we can provide important insights into Asian markets."

Queensland Innovation Minister Leeanne Enoch added Queensland was in a unique position to hold such events as it is geographically close to Asia and effectively in the same time zone.

"These elements make our state attractive to investors who are looking to make an impact in Asian markets as the economy resets itself," Enoch said.

"Queensland can provide a gateway into Asia-Pacific markets and has much to offer."

The summit will take place between the 27th and 28th of April. Endit
