Macedonian Parliament to dissolve for early election

Macedonian Parliament is due to dissolve at midnight Wednesday in order to call early parliamentary elections planned for June 5.
The decision to dissolve the parliament was passed on Feb. 23, after the early general election originally scheduled for April 24 was postponed.
Macedonia's current lawmakers were elected in 2014, when the VMRO-DPMNE leading party and DUI party coalition scored a decisive victory and won a majority in the legislature.
However, the opposition (SDSM) dismissed the election results, and boycotted the work of the Assembly, accusing the ruling parties of election irregularities.
The opposition was left to carry out its activities outside parliament until September 2015, when, under the Przino Agreement, SDSM lawmakers returned to their seats in the Assembly.
On April 4, Macedonian Parliament voted on the appointment of new ministers proposed by DUI, after it decided to change its representatives in the government.
In the past two years, the parliament voted on many important laws, including the electoral code, those demanded by the European Union, the new composition of the state election commission, the establishment of the special prosecutor's office, and the technical government. Enditem
