Scottish economy grows 1.9 pct in 2015

The Scottish economy grew by 1.9 percent year-on-year in 2015, Scotland's chief statistician announced on Wednesday.

In the fourth quarter of 2015, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 0.9 percent compared to the fourth quarter of 2014, according to the official statistics.

The latest GDP release, covering the period October to December 2015, shows total output in the economy grew by 0.2 percent compared to the previous quarter.

The services sector, which accounts for nearly three quarters of the economy, grew by 0.3 percent in the fourth quarter of 2015, when compared to the previous quarter.The production sector contracted by 0.1 percent, and construction output expanded by 0.1 percent.

The quarterly publication measures Scottish GDP growth in real terms (adjusted for inflation), and the published statistics cover activities classified to the onshore economy in Scotland, and do not include oil and gas extraction in the North Sea. Enditem
