Visiting co-chairs of the Minsk Group under the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) discussed Wednesday the recent military conflict in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

The group's U.S., French and Russian co-chairs applauded the cease-fire between Armenia and Azerbaijan in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, saying negotiations are underway to encourage the two sides to solve the conflict.

The co-chairs -- Igor Popov of Russia, Pierre Andrieu of France and James Warlick from the United States -- added that negotiation process on the settlement of the conflict must be "more intense."

Recent hostilities between Armenia and Azerbaijan on the contact line in Nagorno-Karabakh flared up overnight Saturday with the two countries blaming each other for triggering the escalation.

The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said Tuesday that its forces have killed 70 Armenian soldiers and destroyed 20 armored vehicles on Monday and Tuesday, while at least 16 Azerbaijani soldiers were killed during heavy fighting in the region.

After three days of fighting, Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed on Tuesday to a cease-fire, which took effect at noon. Endi
