Bangladesh builds specialized institute to treat burn patients

Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday laid the foundation stone of the country's largest ever institute namely Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute and Hospital in capital Dhaka.

The institute is being constructed at an estimated cost of 5.22 billion taka (66.6 million U.S. dollars) under the supervision of Bangladesh Army.

Officials say the institute is a part of the Hasina government's efforts to ensure modern treatment facilities to the patients of burn injuries and create expert medical persons in Bangladesh.

Addressing at the foundation stone-laying ceremony , Hasina said the institute will be equipped with most modern equipment.

She expressed the hope that it would be a center of excellence for treatment, research and studies in Bangladesh.

Officials say the institute with 500 beds, 50 intensive care unit and 12 operating theaters will be the largest burn and plastic surgery institute also in the world. Enditem
