A good result is winning in Champions League quarter, Simeone

Xinhua, April 5, 2016 Adjust font size:

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone was in positive mood ahead of his sides Champions League quarter-final first leg away to Barcelona on Tuesday night.

Simeone received a boost ahead of naming his squad for the game when defender Diego Godin was pronounced fit and the Uruguayan will add experience as the Atletico defense looks to stop Luis Suarez, Leo Messi and Neymar.

Meanwhile the Atletico coach was ruling nothing out in the Camp Nou against a Barca wounded by Saturday' s defeat to Real Madrid.

A good result is "to win," said Simeone, who commented his side and Barcelona, "know each other very well."

"I don' t think there will be many surprises. They are doing things well and we are working solidly," he explained.

Defender Stefan Savic, who also missed out at the weekend as Atletico brushed past Betis 5-1 has been included in the squad, although Simeone was unwilling to say he would start.

"Everyone has travelled, we have to see how he feels, but he trained well on Sunday, so we have to be optimistic. He' s only had one session, but it' s important that the 18 in the squad understand that just a minute tomorrow is everything," he commented.

Simeone said he didn' t give much importance to Barca' s defeat against Real Madrid.

"I don' t think it will have an influence. We think that they will go for the game as it' s the first leg and they are playing at home. We are optimistic, it is a tough game against a strong rival, but I believe in my team," he said.

"I am expecting the best Barca and I am certain we will see that, so we also have to be at our best. It is a Barca against Atletico," he concluded. Endit
