Road accident claims two lives in SW Nigeria

At least two persons lost their lives and nine others critically injured in an accident involving four vehicles in southwest Nigeria's Ogun State, an official said Sunday.

The accident, which happened on Saturday afternoon involved a Toyota Siena car and a Nissan Pathfinder Jeep at Kobape area along Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway, Babatunde Akinbiyi, spoksperson for the state traffic agency told Xinhua.

The other two vehicles are a Toyota Carina taxi cab and a Toyota Corolla car with no registration number.

Akinbiyi said the corpses of victims had been deposited at the Federal Medical Center mortuary in Abeokuta, while the injured were receiving treatment at the same hospital.

Road accidents take place frequently in Nigeria due to reckless driving, bad road conditions and over packing.

More than 1,000 are killed on the road each year in Nigeria. Endit
